The horse named Krish

“See we can do horse riding”.. the girls screamed. I try to ignore them as I step out of our taxi at Khajjiar.. Fat men and horses don’t go too well was what was going on in my mind. As the girls went racing to negotiate with the horsemen, Tony and I were happy walking towards the green meadows. With every breath the fresh air seems to calm one.. it

Dogs world

If my dog could talk (rather than bark or bite) I am sure he would tell me his tales of the travels he undertook, how out of poverty he used to drink from the toilet, or how for defense he had to fight me, and literally chew my arm off. How the AC was never up to his liking, and how the treats were never enough for him. I can just imagine the kind of conversation we will have

Snake charmer at Rajasthan

06 Jul 2010 | no comments » Add a comment

In 1991 the Indian government banned any show featuring snakes with the introduction of a new wildlife protection bill. But here as can be seen is another failed bill. There are around 8,00,000 snake charmers in India who know only this act as a way of earning their bread. This

After the safari, which was exciting with domestic dogs, cows, crows, and few tiger paw marks (which i felt were freshly done for our sake), we managed to see an elephant which was

Tiger loves you

“Oh, the tiger will love you. There is no sincerer love than the love of food.”
George Bernard Shaw

The recent Airtel initiative of “Only 1411 Tigers left in India” is an eye catcher. That’s the population of people in my colony. Would our children get to see this magnificent animal or would it be hard for them to believe that the animal that Durga (Hindu God of power) rides

The Conditions of a Solitary Bird

12 May 2010 | 2 comments » Add a comment

The conditions of a solitary bird are five:

 - The first, that it flies to the highest point;
 - The second, that it does not suffer for company, not even of its own kind;
 - The third, that it aims its beak to the skies;
 - The fourth, that it does not have a definite color;
 - The fifth, that it sings very softly.

San Juan de la Cruz

Clicked this snap during the monsoons in 2009, loved the painting effect this snap gives with a solitary bird flying high.

Scrat the squirrel

13 Dec 2009 | no comments » Add a comment

I am sure everyone knows “Scrat the squirrel” from the movie “Ice Age 3″. This little fellow reminded me of Scrat, zapping around fast, sniffing here there, hunting for his acorn.

Its really difficult at times to photograph animals especially the small timid ones which are camera shy. One has to approach them

Hideousness for beauty

06 Dec 2009 | no comments » Add a comment

What many would consider a beautiful adornment for a camel, a flower stuck to his nose, I consider it hideous. Perhaps few lines by Anton Chekhov (considered a master in the world of literature as far as short stories are concerned) in “The Bet” (one of my all time favorite stories) explains

A collage of colors, this bird is the state bird for many states in India. Its also associated with Lord Shiva, because of the blue throat (Lord Shiv once drank poison which then resided in his throat making it blue).

Crocodile basking in the sun

05 Dec 2009 | no comments » Add a comment

Ranthambore has many big lakes, and where there is a lake in a national forest there is bound to be crocodiles. This one was basking in the sun lazily not bothered by the noise our jeep made as it passed along the edges of the lake. I like this photograph especially since it has also caught the reflection verywell of the crocodile and the tall grass etc in the lake.
