The blue lagoon – Goa

THERE is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more

Lord Byron (George Gordon)

I stood there high up on the edge of the cliff. Tall lush green grass, few raindrop, eagles flying at eye level, and the sight of the vast sea below, ruthlessly smashing the shore. A small heart shaped lagoon carved out from the sea stood in silent calm a big contrast to the rough waves.

I cannot express what I felt there. The picture does no justice, how can you encapsulate this vast landscape in a picture. How can you express the thousand thoughts rushing in words. Hermann Hesse wrote in his book Siddhartha

“Words do not express thoughts very well. They always become a little different immediately after they are expressed, a little distorted, a little foolish.”

As we then descended the cliff and walked to the lagoon, I missed a good wide angle lens. The shot from my 18mm lens would just capture a portion of the lagoon. I decided to try the panoramic capture of my Galaxy S3 phone. I was pleasantly surprised. Although not as sharp it still managed capture 10 images and stitch them together to show the snap on the left. The cliff that you see above the lagoon is the one from which I captured the first snap.

Ajay my dear friend. Thanks for sharing this place with us. As I said on the phone, I would have not been so kind, like the Gollum, all I would say is “My precious”!

  1. The next time I’m down..you’re taking me here for sure!!! love the heart shaped lagoon & pretty impressive panoramic capture from your S3

  2. Haha…. Well I wouldn’t mind if every person who visits this place or knows of it thinks the same as you buddy…then I am pretty sure it will remain the same “Precious” till end of time!! :-)

  3. Never seen anything like this . Amazing work. You never fail to come up with something impressive each time.

  4. Spectacular pic! I’m rubbing my eyes in disbelief.. didn’t know the beaches could be this beautiful in Goa..

  5. hey ajay,

Im coming down to goa in december. i really want to see this place. will you give me directions to it?

  6. Hi Rushda,
This place is near Bogmalo, however, its pointless to see this place in Dec. The lagoon gets filled with rain water only in the peak monsoon season and drys up later. The best alternative is to go to Vagator Hill and see the Panoramic View from there. No lagoon though.

  8. Hi Shazia,
Assuming you are my colleague from Dhempe college. Thanks for subscribing, and your lovely comments! I run a tour for for £200 a trip to this place. Haha.. lets talk when you come down to Goa pal. This lagoon must have dried up by now, as its only filled during the monsoon season.
    Regards Anurag

  13. The place is interesting. I am a researcher and a wildlifephotographer. I am interested to look at this lagoon. Can you please write back to me about its location. I am travelling tonight to Goa…

Your pictures have added gravity to the location!

    Thanks

    Cheers
    Sri

  14. Hi Kashyap,

Unfortunately this lagoon can only been seen during monsoons, as the rain water collects in this. I have anyways sent you details in your mail. If you want to see other lagoons, try cola beach in the south, I found this to be really good.

    Cheers Anurag
