The train journey

23 Jul 2010 | no comments » Add a comment

A snap I clicked from the local Mumbai trains, the best and the fastest mode of travel in Mumbai and the cheapest too. I have still not figured out the system and still wind up asking people which platform to catch a specific local train, but the locals just know it, “Doh platform par toh dheeri Gadi hai, platform teenh par superfast hai” (platform no 2 has a slow train,

Twilight photography is fun, as the sky turns orange after sunset and the entire landscape turns into a dark silhouette. This one is at Mumbai. Its always good to set the camera at a specific f-stop and exposure, and then click

Mumbai at night – Worli

Just loved the way Mumbai looks at night. Was travelling from Bandra to CST when I asked the taxi driver to stop the vehicle at the start of the sea link so that I can capture this view of Worli. 4 second exposure at f/6.3 200mm. You must of-course see the full view to appreciate it. Click on the image on the left to do so.

An alluring sculpture awaits one at Fort in south Mumbai. The sight is almost impossible to avoid, and moments spent admiring its beauty can go endless. The details, fine work of craft does not go unnoticed and one just wonders how it was created. Its named after the Roman goddess as far as I know. Just beautiful!

As mentioned before, I feel some connection when I sit at Cafe Mondegar. Neelam says perhaps I was a waiter in my previous life at Mondys (as its lovingly known). Waiter… emm perhaps. Whatever the reason might be I can spend hours here without caring for anything in the world. Its my place for peace at Colaba, and no visit to mumbai is complete, without a visit to this place. There is this sudden rush of energy when I sit here, (I cannot express it you have to be here to experience it).

Its one of the charms of Colaba, a very popular restaurant, was recently in news after terrorists attacked it in the November 2008 attacks. The fact that its started by an Iranian is very obvious when you look at the paintings, images surrounding the walls. The shot captured above is the large board above the bar, and is just perhaps 1/3rd of the actual width.

Love is in the air.

3 hours before clicking this snap, I was trying to reason out with Neelam. It made no sense for me to be a ”kabab mein haddi”, but Neelam would not listen to my constant plea. Finally I gave up and agreed to go along with her. 3 hours later I am sitting here, with 2 people who dont know that a world exists outside this special zone they have created; and I am definately outside this, I was being ignored big time :)
I had never seen Neelam so happy, so excited, and so lost. She had not fallen in love, she had collapsed.

As I guided the taxi guy to this place with the phone held tight to my ear and my eyes searching for my friend waving out on the road, I came across this huge rock solid 100 year old building. I saw my friend tumble out

Umbrella Window – Cafe Mondegar (Mondy)

Cafe Mondegar (or Mondy as its more popularly known) is my favorite place in colaba to hang out with friends. It pumps energy in you right in the start as you have to yell to have a conversation with your friends, amidst the loud music being played by a jukebox (which is constantly used) and the halla bulla at all the other closely packed tables that somehow

Towering Mumbai

This was amoung the first set of snaps I clicked from my first camera. What was before a jungle was being transformed slowly. City-scapes were changing with time.. Bombay was not the same anymore.

I cannot decide what I like more: the soaring building with pimples of AC’s, or the almost fragile branch, showing its last signs of existance. I listen to one of my favorite songs of Pink Floyd everyday to and fro from office called “Wish you were here”. The fist part of the lyrics are below.

“So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?

A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?”
