Is this Earth! We all seem to be asking. The first glimpse of the Himalayas at a curved road prompted all of us to step out of our vehicles to just enhale this sight. For some of us it was our first look at the “abode of snow” (Thats what it means). An almost similar sight being viewed by 6 countries (it spreads so far!) was an achievement of some kind by Nature.

Smokin' Mountain

Almost looks like this one loves to puff a few! Felt I was in paradise… its Rotang pass again. We all made plans to come back to this place again next year and this time do a motorbike expedition as far as we could. This path later leads to “Khardung La” which is the world’s highest motorable road at 18380ft/5600m. But ofcourse… we lazy guys never made this trip.

Rohtang Pass - Mountains

I saw snow for the first time at Rohtang pass, although I could not enjoy it much having a broken foot, which meant I could not wear protective shoes. Was sitting in the car while my friends played in the show, asking the chaiwalla (tea guy!) to keep on making trips every 5 mins and serve me hot tea! I just could not bear the cold temperature and the altitude.

Doesn’t it look like a scene from Indiana Jones movie where he is searching for a path to a secret temple high up in the mountains. This pass by the way is suppose to be an ancient trade route. ”Rohtang” derives its name from a Persian word which translates to “pile of dead bodies”, supposedly a very dangerous route.
