Waiting for the start of the season

28 Oct 2013 | no comments » Add a comment

Time is too slow for those who wait.

Some of my favorite places in Goa are shut down for dull season during the rains.

  • the relaxed setup at Morjim beach in the north with Rajasthani tents
  • the peaceful, isolated location at Columb which has an almost private cove
  • the exotic setup at Cavelossim with drinks served on a dock next to river, water buffalos padding through (really).
  • The cutoff place (no mobile reception, limited service, and you are sandwiched between a cliff and a beach and a lagoon on the side!) at Cola beach
  • Those amazing wooden cottages at Palolem

Monsoon beach – Anjuna

The best magic trick is played by nature.

As we walk further inside the lanes of Anjuna at the cliff, we reach one end where the view seems just right. We stop for a moment to inhale this.

The magic of Goa

05 May 2013 | no comments » Add a comment

I may not believe in God, but I do believe a higher power paints these landscapes, for it is foolish to think chaos can be so beautiful.

I stare in silence, as the magic unfolds in front of me. I don’t want to miss a moment of this. I know there will be people in this world who are oblivious of this, who will never see this. It’s a thought still stuck in my

Twilight at Agonda beach – Chattai

It’s funny how modernization evolution and lifestyle adaptations take away something we crave the most… calmness.

My first visit to Agonda was a bit disappointing, it did not feel as exciting as Colomb beach, or Palolem. However a few days later I landed up on this beach to spend a weekend.

If isolation is what you seek, this is exactly where

The perfect work desk

03 Mar 2013 | 2 comments » Add a comment

I don’t mind working in a cubical, just give me a sea view…

A few days back on a lazy Sunday I saw this desk on a small cliff at Anjuna, and I wonder if I should shift my work desk here. As I sat on the chair, and kept my feet on the desk, I remembered the words “No man-made object of beauty can be compared to the simplest elements of Nature, for Nature is the true artist”. Needless to say the rest of the evening was

A Simple Path

25 Feb 2013 | no comments » Add a comment

My calm peaceful book reading at Palolem is interrupted by laughter. I look up to see fishermen joke amoung themselves. They seem idle, as some smoked a bidi, while another waved his hands in the air describing some weird scene, while others looked at him with crooked smile.

The simplicity of the whole setup, and the idleness (for some) of the fishermen as they lazed

As the sun goes down on Cola beach

19 Dec 2012 | no comments » Add a comment

“There is nothing more appetizing, caressing and musical than the sunset… and yeah its eye-catching too.”

“Cola beach?” said someone, “do you know how to get there”, as I sat sipping my coffee at the Chattai Shack at Agonda. I whip up my phone to search, waiting for the result, however the lady has moved on to the manager, who explains the path, including the fact that there is a good restaurant there which

When anyone comes to Goa, the first thing on their mind is Calangute beach. Calangute, once a small fishing village, was popularised by the hippies, and through word of mouth became the hot-spot for them

THERE is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more

Lord Byron (George Gordon)

I stood there high up on the edge of the cliff. Tall lush green grass, few raindrop, eagles flying at eye level, and the sight of the vast sea below, ruthlessly

Monsoon beach

Experiencing the rains at the beach is perhaps not something everyone enjoys. Mucky sand, no shelters in the vast open expanse, and isolated. Yeah does it make sense?

Well Henry Beston wrote when he was spending time at a beach cottage,

“The three great elemental sounds in nature are the sound of rain, the sound of wind in a primeval wood, and the sound of outer ocean on a beach”.

Although not in primeval wood, the wind still sings
