Mandovi River – Monsoon snap

07 Jul 2011 | no comments » Add a comment

The Mandovi river and bridge in the monsoon season. I would have ideally cut off the dirty rubble I see at the right end of the snap, but the lamp would have been cut off too and it adds so much value to the snap. Morning photograph on my way to work, when it was really gloomy with clouds all around.

18mm, f/22, ISO 100, 1/100 sec

I have a Dream

On August 28, 1963, An African American in a black suit, stood on the steps on Lincoln Memorial. In front of him was a crowd of 2,00,000. The next 17 mins were history as he unveiled to the world his “I have a Dream” speech. Below is a text version of his speech which even today sends a chill through the spine to do something against an unjust world.

I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.

Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous

We didn’t start the fire

Yeah right! we didn’t start the fire.. It was always burning, since the worlds been turning.. But the fire is every growing, thats because we try to fight it with fuel rather than water.

People revolting, war, drugs, diseases, rape, child abuse, murder is what greets us early morning in news… And its nothing new, its been happening since the dawn of civilization. So why do we label ourselves as a civilized society? Which civilized

Ok 2 points here, Lighting and Zoom

1. Lighting: The sunset conditions offer nice lighting for clicking snaps and no, not of the sunset. Use the sunset light to click other scenes around and see how they come. Notice the shadows in the sea

A Vagabond for Beauty and Peace

10 Apr 2011 | 3 comments » Add a comment

As to when i shall visit civilization, it will not be soon. I think. I have not tired of the wilderness; rather i enjoy its beauty and the vagrant life l lead, more keenly all the time. I prefer the saddle to the streetcar and star sprinkled sky to a roof, the obscure and difficult trail, leading into the unknown, to any paved highways, and

Splash of life

“You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.”

Just a small reminder to everyone, life is too short to hold grudges, hatred, jealousy, anger, resentment, sorrow, grief, pain and whatever else troubling your mind.

When you step into the sea, and you are hit by an unsuspecting wave, which sweeps you off your feet, you yell in terror and excitement as you are droped much further away, you make an

Centurione I by Igor Mitoraj

Igor Mitoraj is a contemporary Polish artist from Germany famous for making classic sculptures with deliberate damage to show wear and tear through ages, or intentional damage done, making them give an antique look, and usually depicts Greek and Roman Gods. As I searched for his work, I found many versions of his Centurione I, one of which I clicked at Bamberg. This depicts Eros the Greek God of love and beauty.

Saint Cunigunde of Luxembourg

20 Feb 2011 | no comments » Add a comment

The soul of a city, of a country, is not the giant modern buildings that sprawl across the landscape, or the number of modern and exciting bars that have come up, but rather of its endless folk stories, or its history, which gave it culture, customs, and rituals. Thats one of the reasons why I love places of cultural significance. Bamberg has countless stories.

This image is of Saint Cunigunde of Luxembourg (also known as Empress Kunigunde) who was married to the Saint Henry (Heinrich II) the Holy Roman Emperor. Legend has it that she

Woman with fruit by Fernando Botero

Every year Villa Concordia (International Artists House), Bamberg (Germany) awards scholarships to few German and foreign artists from the various fields and invites them to work in Bamberg. Work of famous artists are also showcased and at times bought by a citizen initiative like this one called “Woman with Fruit” a brass sculpture by the famous Columbian sculptor Fernando Botero which now stands at “Hay Market”. He is known to make what is termed by his critics as “fat figures”.
